Head Instructor Robin Sanchez

Robin Sanchez, who attended the University of North Texas with a focus in Psychology, first picked up a polo mallet in 1978 under the tutelage of renowned instructor and nine goal player Billy Linfoot. Coming from a family of polo players, she began playing regularly at the age of 11 and has contributed to every aspect of the sport from training horses to officiating games and has played tournament polo up to the 16 goal level.

Robin may be best known for the many years she has spent developing the Florida Junior Polo Program. Once exclusively for polo professionals and their children in South Flordia, Sanchez helped expand the program to include youth from non-polo backgrounds. The program consists of weekly coached clinics and four monthly tournaments, one of which is the most prestigious junior polo tournament in the US, the Avendano, where participation has been as high as 100 children. Robin also organized the largest women's tournament in the country, The Tribal Cup. For the four years that it was played in Florida, over 22 teams participated and it attracted sponsors such as Aston Martin and Bombardier.

Robin began teaching polo and riding with her dad, the well known Buzz Welker, in his polo schools at Willow Bend in Texas and in clubs in Florida, Wyoming and Tennessee. Robin has managed several polo clubs over the years including Mashomack and Saratoga Polo in New York. Robin always ran a coinciding polo school to help grow the membership by bringing new players into the sport, a goal toward which she constantly strives.

She coached the IPC Interscholastic Team to Nationals in 2007. Her equestrian background includes a solid foundation in huntseat and dressage and she has spent time working on cattle ranches in Wyoming and Oklahoma and competing in barrel racing and western pleasure. She currently sits on the USPA Equine Welfare Committee. Robin is a licensed emergency medical technician and in her spare time is a yoga instructor and personal trainer.

Robin is an important member of the Polo Training Foundation team. By adding her experience in polo, her love of teaching and her commitment to the sport, the PTF hopes to do even more to promote youth polo and "The Future of Polo in America."
